Hi! Yes it has to do with ip-ping from the computer world.

When you are going to ping an ip-address which belong to another pc/printer/router/switch/server on the network, you send a package, and the package gets sent back with an answer if it was received by the one you pinged or not. Then you know if you have connection with the other pc/box/printer on the network or if it is offline, cable is broken, etc.)

Here, it's a way to send a post and to tell him/her (and everybody) that he/she has a post specifically to him/her.

Instead of writing "Hello, Bottle. Here is a post for you." Or "Be sure to read this, Bottle", etc, you write "Ping Bottle." And people know that this package is to Bottle.

So it comes from the ip-ping/computer-world ping.

Sorry about my cumbersome explanation, it's my (lack of) English language that is the fault.
