And Cracked.com does it again!

Ah, pedo humor. Our comedy writers can't get enough of expressing to readers how "creepy" it is for adults to find anyone under the age of 18 to be even mildly attractive rather than simply "cute as a button." You just gotta love it. Of course, gay people are made the butt of jokes (pun not intended!) at least as often as pedos and hebes are, but it's easier for gays to laugh at these jokes than it is for us MAPs, not because we necessarily take ourselves more seriously than they do or believe our community should be above being made light of (hell, I can laugh at pedo jokes!), but because the gays are well aware that in most cases the writers making the jokes do so entirely in the spirit of good fun and generally do not actually believe the stereotypes that they are poking fun at; if only the same was the case for most of the writers who poke fun at pedos and hebes, where one can feel the hatred rather than any sign of love behind the comments. If it was the same for MAPs as it is for mainstream gays, then perhaps we could do more laughing than eye-rolling, sighing, and grumbling when we see these jokes and the ignorant stereotypes that they seek to perpetuate rather than refute in a light-hearted manner via the gift of levity.

Which brings us to another fine offering of pedo humor by the inimitable Cracked.com staff (in this case, David Johnson). The writers for this wonderful satiric online zine generally make admirable attempts to be accurate whenever they lampoon any given subject, with the rare exception of anything to do with adult attraction to minors, of course. As I said in a previous essay on this subject, why buck a popular trend for the sake of something as trivial as accuracy?

Which brings us to the case in point, being this article; scroll down to item #10, "Note We Have No Indication Dr. Fishbein Was A Pedophile," regarding an old sex education record called Dr. Fishbein Talks To A Growing Girl (if only the producers of that record, not to mention the unfortunate Dr. Fishbein, were able to anticipate the sex abuse and accompanying pedo hysteria a few decades into the future; they would never have chosen such a title for the record if they could have!). Now, a few excerpts from the article followed by a few responses from me:

But we've noticed an unfortunate trend in these old-timey sex education records - they seem to go miles out of their way to pick the downright creepiest bastard they can find to post front and center on the covers.

That's funny, Dr. Fishbein doesn't appear to be wearing a trenchcoat, nor is he wearing dark shades (but merely regular glasses), and he doesn't appear to have candy in his hand to offer the girl on the cover with him. So how is it that he fits the popular visual image of a "creepy" pedophile? Is there something about wearing an immaculate suit and tie or simply being old that suggests a pedophile? If so, I am ignorant of that particular stereotypical image of a pedophile.

Are we wrong to hope that the man in that photo doesn't know in explicit detail what it's like to be a growing girl? [emphasis in original]

Ha ha. Good one, dude. But does this mean that every male gynocologist who treats young girls is a potential pedophile or hebephile? One must wonder why the hysteria hasn't yet hit the men who work that particular field instead of all the teachers, clergy, coaches, camp counselors, and all other fields where men hesitate to enter these days when these latter fields do not actually require the adult in question to take a close look at a growing girl's anatomy. One would think that gynocology would be a field that attracts scores of MAPs even if they would also have to endure looking at the "parts" of 80-year-old women and checking their elderly breasts for signs of cancerous lumps.
