One of Robert Menard's current works shows that a society has to have a name to exist legally, and a society is simply a gathering of like-minded individuals with their own ways of living and their own rules, and multiple societies can exist, it's just that no one knows about this stuff; He's creating a free man society right now, and the rules differ from the "greater society" which you didn't name (no one seems to be able to in fact), that society will have its own police, media, services etc... I don't know how far or how big or how right it all is, but it's certainly interesting to see it happening, and goes to show that 'some' people have enough of that "greater society" and are seeking another way.
